Shivapuri National Park hiking offers you one of the best hiking and nature-trail experiences near Kathmandu. The National Park is home to numerous species of flora and fauna. In particular, bird watching is one of the most popular activities among people visiting in the national park.
The panoramic views of Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, and the Manaslu range are clearly visible from many spots on the trail. Additionally, the unique culture of the local residents can also leave a positive imprint in the minds of the visitors. On this trail, one can easily connect with the locals and also experience the wonders of nature nearby the biggest city near the Himalayas.
Shivapuri national park hiking starts from Kakani where you will be driven to by our drivers along with some of our guides. On day one you will be entering through dense forest with ups / downs; and will reach Shivapuri hill by evening where you will be staying at a hotel.
On the second day, you will be directed towards Chisapani the trekking route will be easier than day one as we will be passing through fewer ups and downs. If you are lucky you may also encounter some wild boars, deer, Monkeys and various other birds. This day’s hike ends at Chisapani where you will stay at a comfortable hotel with a warm meal and hot water shower.
The third and last day of this hike starts off with a hot beverage and some breakfast. On this day you will be heading towards Nagarkot, which is one of the famous picnic spot in Kathmandu. The trail is quite similar to that of day one and two. The same day, you will be driving back to Kathmandu from Nagarkot.
Shivapuri national park is home to numerous plants and wildlife. The trek is also one of the nearest sightseeing destinations near Kathmandu. Moving through the various indigenous villages, the trek offers glimpses of the culture, traditions and practices of the region.
While on this hike, you can expect spectacular views of the Himalayas and the Kathmandu Valley. You will also get the opportunity to visit some impressive Buddhist gumbas and monasteries, and also experience the unique culture of the local residents. The hiking trail offers a chance to be around one of the oldest natural forests in Kathmandu. The view of the sunrise from this place is simply outstanding, and is something no visitor would want to miss.
A 45 minutes drive from Kathmandu will take us to Kakani, a hill top station located north of Kathmandu. From here, visitors enter the Shivapuri National park and follow the dirt trails to Gurje Bhanjyang.
From Gurje, the hike towards the Shivapuri hill begins, the national park is named after the hill which covers most of the national park. From here, the trails moves on the ridges of the hill to reach Chisapani.
From Chisapani the trails are easy going. One follows the ridges on a gentle yet pleasant walk to reach Nagarkot which is about 3-4 hours away. After lunch, drive back to Kathmandu.
