Trip Overview

Water Rafting is a sport and activity consisting of a crew that works in the union to navigate a river. For the most part, the whitewater rafting history can be traced back to 1811 when the first recorded attempt to navigate the Snake River was planned in Wyoming. Since then, the general attempt to navigate has drastically changed to an adventurous sport prospering in countries like Nepal that are rich in fast flowing rivers.

Rafting in Nepal provides you with an experience unlike any other with its scenic beauty, being surrounded by magnificent mountains, an outstanding selection of rivers that originate from the glaciers of some of the top peaks in the world itself. The trip portrays the country’s natural as well as ethnocultural heritage and showers you with massive doses of adrenaline buzz which is sure to create a lifetime memory that cannot be tarnished. Rafting in Nepal has something for everyone providing a wide array of selection with rivers ranging from grade 2 and 3 rapids to rides so powerful that can flip you into the wild torrents of water with ease.

In the recent years, Bhotekoshi (the harmony of Tibet and the Himalayas) has been one of the more prominent destinations for rafting in Nepal. Located at Baseri which is approximately 95 km to the north-east, it is just 4-hour long drive from the capital making it easily accessible. Emerging from Tibet and branching from Sun Koshi in the way, Bhotekoshi is an ideal trip for those seeking for short but thrilling whitewater voyage with the rafting getting the steeper arousing class 4 to 5 rapids.

The location is unparalleled in its scenic beauty, offering rafters numerous photographic moments and opportunities to visit the unexplored. Having said that, there is very little time to look at the mountains and the scenery once you are on the river and the whitewater experience begins. It has been marked as the steepest river that is rafted in Nepal, with continuous rapid action and water pounding demanding hard work and commitment from the rafters.

Getting to the rafting location, ‘Baseri’ is pretty easy with the Araniko highway residing along the river that can get you from the capital within 4-5 hours. Along the way, you will get to glimpse the river with all its mighty power and the mountains guiding the pathway. Once you get there, you will be greeted with friendly local faces and keen rafters and provided with breakfast (depending upon the package). A small orientation on the technicalities is provided by trained professionals and raft guides.

Most of the rafting packages come in a two-day trip which is highly recommended as it allows you to familiarize with the place, the atmosphere and especially the nighttime experience, with people, gathered around, barbecuing, it is an experience of a lifetime.
