Trip Overview

Balthali is a peaceful village located on the outskirts of Kathmandu. A weekend destination, Balthali can easily be reached by driving, but one can also choose to drop midway and then hike an hour or two to reach there. The area is more beautiful in the plantation season, that is June/July. The panoramic views of mountains are mesmerizing from Balthali. 

If one observes closely, the hill of Namobuddha is visible from Balthali as well. Namo Buddha is a sacred Buddhist site with a significant historic and religious importance. It is also a popular getaway destination from the city.

Balthali is a short holiday destination from Kathmandu. The hike offers adventurers the chance to witness ancient farming and traditional practices. About the Balthali Hike Package

The Balthali village hiking starts from Dhulikhel and then moves towards Namobuddha monastery, which is located on the northern part of the Balthali village. This is also a spot where we can view the incredible sights of the Himalayas on the Eastern side including that of Mt. Everest, which is the world’s highest peak. It is a very refreshing hike from where we can view traditionally painted houses and farm terraces with the mesmerizing scenery of forests and hills. The hiking trail is very peaceful and the villages are populated mostly by ethnic Tamang people where the overnight stay is at the top of the hill from where the best views are possible. The return hiking takes the route via Khopasi and then back to Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01
City tour Drive to Dhulikhel.

The day starts with the visit to Monkey Temple and Boudhanath. From here, the drive to Patan begins, where lunch is graded at a typical Newari lunch place. Local lunch items Samaya Baji or Newari Khaja is served. After lunch, the drive to Dhulikhel begins. Homestay in Dhulikhel.

Day 02
Trek to Balthali village via Namo Buddha (1982m)

The trek is fairly easy. Approximately 3 hours walk through local villages, Namo Buddha is reached. A sacred Buddhist site, Namo Buddha is an excellent view point. Panoramic views of mountains is visible. After lunch, the trek moves towards Balthali. 3 hours walk through pine forests and villages takes one to Balthali. Overnight in local homestay.

Day 03
Explore Balthali

A day to explore a Buddhist community village. A short visit to Danda Gaon, a Buddhist village, then towards Pada Gaon and the local hilltop temple. A day fro relaxation and fresh air.

Day 04
Trek to Panauti (1400m) & drive to Kathmandu.

After breakfast, the walk moves towards Panauti, a typical Newari village. Panauti is a historic city. From here, the drive to Kathmandu begins which is around 2-3 hours long.
