Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing is one of the newly introduced trekking trails in the world famous Everest Region. Because of its moderate challenging route, it has gained so many attentions of adventure junkies. The journey takes you to the region rich in ancient Buddhist tradition & culture that has been practiced for hundreds of years and still everything is the same. A raw experience of high alpine valleys, picturesque villages, welcoming locals, dense forests, and of course the Himalayan mountains will blow your mind. You will see astonishing views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Mt. Makalu (8,481 m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201 m), and many others.
Even though Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing is considered as a semi-technical peak, you still need to have serious commitment to make it to the summit. You will also get basic training from your guide about gears before commencing towards the summit.
Your journey begins with an unforgettable flight to Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla, which is remarked as the second dangerous airport in the world. The flight will be scenic, and upon reaching Lukla, you will begin your trek towards the summit of Kyajo Ri Peak (6,186 m).
Following the river upstream you will trek through a pine forest and reach the entrance of the Everest National Park. From here, you will descend and ascend to reach Namche Bazar crossing few suspension bridges. You will have an acclimatization day in the Namche Bazar which, is one of the biggest residence areas of Sherpa’s. You will go on a short excursion and explore the area.
Next day, you will ascend towards your next destination Dole. The trail will go through small villages, rhododendron, pine & birch forests, and on the way, you might get to see colorful danphe, musk deer, and Himalayan thar. Leaving Dole behind, you will trek to reach Machermo and continue trekking towards Gokyo Lake. The trail will include steep uphill climb along with the enchanting views of the landscape. Crossing first lake and the second lake, you will reach the third lake, Dudh Pokhari.
You will have another acclimatization day here. You will hike to the Gokyo Ri to see the gorgeous sunrise and later trek to Gokyo lake and spend some time there.
The trail from here ascends through rock spur and ice to the foothills of Renjo La Pass. You will cross this challenging pass from where you will witness splendid views of Everest (8,848 m), Cho Oyu (8,201 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Cholaste (6,440 m), Makalu (8,481 m), and Taboche Peak (6,542 m). Further, you will descend and reach Lungden and continue your trek towards Thame and to Mende.
From Madne the trail becomes relatively easier to Kyajo Ri Base Camp where you will stay for a night. Here comes again one more rest day at the base camp. You will prepare for the summit and also get brief info about the peak and the route.
It’s day 13th and you will be moving towards Camp I. The trail will be grassy and then change into rocky ascend. After having another acclimatization day at the Camp I, you will head towards Camp II. The trail will get more challenging as you move further.
Finally, it’s a day for which you have suffered all the difficulties till now, summit Kyajo Ri. You will wake up early in the morning and begin climbing towards the summit. The trail will include glacial paths, rocky sections, and boulders. Upon reaching the summit, you will spend some time enjoying the breathtaking view and descend back to Camp II for the overnight stay. Descending back safely is as important as climbing the summit. You will descend back to Namche Bazar and trek towards Lukla to take your flight to Kathmandu.
