Momo, the word that is enough to make anyone crave. This unofficial national dish of Nepal is served at every corner of wherever you go. Like Gnocchi in Italy, Gyoza in Japan, MoMo is the Nepali version of dumplings stuffed with lots of goods inside it. It is one of the most consumed dish/snack in Nepal with an average person consuming at least 4 plates (approx. 40 pieces) in a week.
It’s crazy, right? And, the more craziest thing is its variety. The increasing interest of locals in the momo’s has built an intense competition in the market to serve the best as well as created several new varieties of it that will blow your mind.
There are numerous places that serve best momos in town but, it is way difficult to put them down in one blog. So, we are going to share you few places that we love to visit as well as the majority of locals prefers. You may not like the momo’s of certain places as everyone has their own preferences and taste but again remember this blog is all about what majority of locals like.

Gopal Dai ko Chatamari and Momo Center
Gopal Dai ko Chatamari and momo center is a small eatery at Dillibazar, Pipalbot. This place has served its delicious momo for more than 26 years now. The menu here is small, yet you will see people all over the time. The consistent taste of momo has earned loyal customers who come here often. This place is not like any other cool and fancy cafes or restaurants but, the food here is worth trying at least once.
Narayan Dai ko Masangalli Momo
Located at Ghausala and other places, Narayan dai ko Masangalli Momo is another famous place in Kathmandu where locals love to eat momos. The years of making and serving momos have made their recipe standout in the crowd of servers in town. The freshly minced meat with the exact ratio of fat and perfectly seasoned has made their momos taste best.
Shandar Momo
Shandar momo is another small eatery where you can have some of the best momos inside the valley. The service here is quick, and you will find no seating arrangement here. The momos are served on a “Tapari” (traditional Nepali bowl), and you have to eat it straight away. It is located opposite of Suraj Arcade and other locations as well.
Dharahara ko Momo
Another favourite place for locals to eat momo is at Dharahara ko Momo. The unique thing about them is they add peanuts into their ingredients that elevates the entire taste of the momo and made it super delicious.
They serve it in tapari (traditional Nepali bowl) with sauce all over it. The vegetarian momos are more popular than any other.
Bota
Have you ever thought of getting numerous varieties of momos under one roof? Then here you go, Bota is that place. You will find momos that are specially made here. The menu has got enough to decide from where to start. You will find outlets of Bota in many places all over the country and specially inside the Kathmandu Valley. The money is worth spending here.
Mo:Mo Hut
Momo Hut is located in Chaksibari Marg, Thamel. The menu has got a good variety of momos. The momos here are also worth trying at least once. As it is located in Thamel, along with locals foreigners also loved the momos that are served here.
