Nagarkot Changu Narayan Hiking is a culturally rich and a scenic hiking route located near the Kathmandu Valley. Located 32 KM on the northern region of the Kathmandu Valley, Nagarkot is surrounded by thick pine trees hills. Famous for its excellent sunrise views, Nagarkot, offers one of the broadest views of the Himalayas from Kathmandu valley. In fact, eight of the thirteen mountains in the Himalayan ranges can be viewed from this famous hill station. Enjoy the mesmerizing views of Ganesh Himal, Annapurna range, Langtang range, Manaslu range, Rolwaling range, Jugal range, Mahalangur range (Everest range) and Numbur, as well as the pristine natural wonders of the Shivapuri National Park.
The finishing point of this route is the Changu Narayan temple, which is one of oldest temples in the valley and is also a UNESCO world heritage site. This ancient temple is situated on a hilltop known as Changu or Dolagiri and is surrounded by Champak tree forests and a small town called Changu. This hill is about 7 miles east of Kathmandu and a few miles north of Bhaktapur. The temple is one of the holiest religious sites in the valley, devoted to the Supreme Hindu god Vishnu, also known as Narayan. Legend goes that the Kashmiri king gave his daughter, Champak, in marriage to the prince of Bhaktapur. Changu Narayan Temple is originally named after her.
The Nagarkot and Changu Narayan trek begin with a drive to Saakhu which is an ancient Newari town located in the North East part of Kathmandu. Offering a panoramic view of mountains, the hike moves towards the Nagarkot view tower, which is one of the most popular hill-stations near Kathmandu. The trek ends at Changu Narayan, which a UNESCO World heritage site. On this trip you will get to experience the ancient glory of the Kathmandu Valley, as well as the pristine natural environment around the hills of the valley.

After breakfast, we drive to the traditional village of Sankhu which is approximately an hour away. Upon reaching Sankhu, we begin our hike to Nagarkot in the outskirts of Kathmandu. We enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges.
The day starts with the glorious sunrise view with great views of the snow-capped peaks. After the breakfast, we continue our journey towards Changu Narayan (3 hrs). The most amazing thing is to see the local villages along the trail which display the countryside lifestyle despite being so close to the city. The Himalayas appear undisturbed. The hike is fairly easy with few gradual descend until Changu Narayan. After visiting Changu Narayan and taking Lunch we drive back to Kathmandu at the end of a day’s hiking tour in Kathmandu.
