We stay in one of the oldest and best teahouses
Today it is along a gravel road up! On the way we enjoy great Views to Kagbeni and in the remote areas Mustangs. To us too well acclimatize, we bike today very slowly. In the small Buddhist settlement Jhong we will have lunch. During the tour of the local monastery, we enjoy the magnificent Views towards Jharkot and Muktinath. The last climb leads partially Singletrack to the holy site of Muktinath, where we stay overnight. Many pilgrims visit the Shiva Temples and bathing in the ice cold water of the springs.
Today, an increase takes place past the village Chhyonggur up to the 4,077 m high Gyu La Passport. The Uphill is exhausting. The single trails are mostly mobile (partially Carrying sections) and offer beautiful views of the snowy peaks. According to this steep passage follows an initially equally steep, later wave Downhill over Singletrack in the 1,000 m below Tetang. Passing by an ancient wall Mani it down to Chhusang. From there, still separates us a short rise and a River crossing by Chele on the opposite side, where the river by a Rock tunnel runs.
A long and challenging stage awaits us today. We leave the river valley behind us and biking up in the mountains. A constant up and down on slopes, and steep singletrack Departures will take us a total of 4 passes until after Syanboche. We overcome the Taklam La (3,624 m), Dajori La (3,735 m) Bhena La (3,860 m) and finally Yamda La (3,860 m). We have to expect at this altitude with some pushing and carrying.
The next day we drive to the recovery shorter stages. From Syangboche we have initially to overcome a small rise on the Syanboche La (3,850 m), before we on Piste and easy paths pass through a wide valley after Ghiling (3,510 m). From here introduces us easy-to-travel cart path up to the Nyi La (4,010 m). Here offers itself us a splendid panorama of Mustang, Annapurna and Nilgiri.
This day is one of the scenic highlights of the tour and invites you to marvel and Photographing a! After the ascent to Tsarang La (3.870m) we follow a cart track to quarters in Charang. Here is the largest library of Lo and the 400 Years old Gulpa monastery.
Day 11: From Charang to Lo-Manthang (3,810 m) On a slightly longer climb, we cross the Lo La Pass (3,810 m), which is also the Nickname "Windy Pass" bears. From the top of the pass is sufficient for the first time our eyes into the distance up to Lo-Manthang, the capital of the Forbidden Kingdom and royal residence. The landscape almost desert-like; the horizon to the north limit the Tibetan mountains, behind us is to see the Annapurna chain. Around noon we reach Lo-Manthang and the afternoon is at our disposal.
We have earned a rest day. Lo-Manthang is one of the perhaps most interesting Places in the Himalayas and definitely worth a longer visit and explore! We will visit the Royal Palace and enjoy a cup of tea or even a dinner with the former king of Lo in person - what an experience! There are several interesting monasteries to visit, one of which is over 900 years old and also one of the most beautiful Thangka Paintings of Nepal hosts. The countless details and the strong colors of the painting are in stark contrast to the wide open Areas surrounding the village landscape. We take our time for our Visits of this surreal place.
From Lo-Manthang we biking on single trails, which are mobile only 75%, up to 4,090 m high Pangga pass. The effort will be rewarded with a wonderful view. In a permanent up and down it goes from Dhi La (3,950 m) down to Dhi. This departure offers one of the most dramatic scenery with a constant play of colors. DHI it goes uphill to Yara, where you can discover some interesting village ruins.
From Yara we first bike a few kilometers before our bikes around half Must carry and push hour, then on a rocky and technical singletrack down to go to Ghechang Khola river. In the riverbed, we must push through and Water wading. After crossing the river followed by a longer wearing Passage. We follow a path leading uphill through open, dry terrain high up on a 3,850 m Passport. From here you go down in the small but prosperous village Tange. Before our reach today's camp, still awaits us a renewed brief slide passage.
Today we are facing the "Queen Stage". There awaits us the most demanding bike day, the but with great trails and unique views will more than reward. Our journey begins with a one-hour increase, followed by a short Departure and crossing the river Yak Khola. From the river banks to a start long steep, approximately 3-hour ascent to Cha Cho La Pass (4,210 m). We have our Carry or push bikes up. From the pass, a magnificent panorama opens up with the Summits Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Tilicho, Nilgri and other Himalayan giants. With a bit luck we also see a rare blue sheep that graze here. On the way we see also the mystical place where the tradition of Himmelsbegräbnisse practiced. Maybe we can also observe the rare Himalayan vultures in this area occurrence. After a very long, again and again uphill beautiful Trail eventually leads a terrible downhill down to Chhusang.
Today is our last day in Upper Mustang. Passing some temporary settlements and through barren land, we cycle on the main road towards Jomsom. In Kagbeni, the next largest town to Lo-Manthang, take the two routes to Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang each other. From Kagbeni we continue in the ways of Annapurna circumnavigation. After a lunch at Ekla Bhatti we cycle over the village ThNi continues to Marpha. Marpha is probably the best place for fresh apples and the famous local brandy to enjoy. Many once stately houses were after interruption of trade with Tibet to decay. With the advent of tourism, there was an upswing: The Thakali converted their houses partially in welcoming and hostels Shops to such. As here in the famous commercial centers Marpha and Tukuche where us the built together Flat roof buildings stand out. The lives of the residents takes place in the often beautifully landscaped courtyards from; from outside the same buildings fortresses. The often with carvings ornate buildings also provide protection from the violent winds that roaring through the narrow valley. We take our time for a comprehensive tour of Marpha, that even a built of large stone slabs "main street" has. It is worth a Detour up the steep stairs to the newly built large Gompa.
We follow the ever-widening gravel road along the river. In clear weather offer time and again magnificent views of the mighty cliffs of Dhaulagiri in the west and on the Nilgiri in the east. Shortly after Sauru narrows the vast Kali Gandaki valley, and abruptly leave after the strong winds. About Kokethanti we reach Kalopani (2,530 m). Here we are in the deepest valley section of the world between the Eight-thousanders Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. On the way to the imposing waterfall is Rupse Chhara. On a beautiful spot overlooking the Annapurna I, we will lunch our lunch taking. From here on, leads us on a downhill gravel and sand slopes down to Tatopani. The climate in Tatopani is now back almost subtropical. The elongated site with many lodging owes its name to the bubbling near the river gravel hot springs, equally in the stone water basin residents and visitors wanting to relax. We also enjoy a swim in the springs as well as a well-deserved cold beer. Overnight in Tatopani.
A relaxed tour day, the mostly downhill takes us more than 22 km to the town of Beni. From there begins the 3 hour drive Pokhara. After we pass on the have at Naudada reached the highest point of our route today, we still treat ourselves a promising downhill on our bikes to Pokhara
Welcome back to civilization! A hot shower, cold beer, coffeehouses on Lakeshore or a shopping stroll through Pokhara. Who still too for adventure Mute is, has the opportunity to rafting trips or paragliding.
